JESSE JAGZ
ALBUM: THY NATION COME
LABEL: JAGZ NATION
RELEASE DATE: 07/10/2013
NAIJA LATEST MUZIQ: EDITOR'S RATING: 8.5/10
Burning Bush 8/10: Clean tune, before diving in fully into the
album, Jesse shows his soft side to a good friend of his, seem like they
did every thing together (Smoke/Pray). Deep tune, production is
commendable.
Bed of Roses (A Hustler's Prayer) 8/10: The message behind this is just common sense we tend to ignore in life. Jesse went deep on us, emphasizing on the fact that life isn't easy, not everybody will accept you for who you are; LIFE IS HARD but hard work will get you to where you want to be. This is Hiphop, i guess it's not dead after all "I'm doing the impossible; i'm bleaching the sun"'
Desire 8/10: The whole reggae thing is really working for Jesse Jagz, this is almost gospel to me. It's like he's confessing his sins, he knows he's a sinner (i mean we are all sinners right? very easy to relate) but asking Jah to forgive him and guide him when evil comes his way because he's on about what the heart desires.
Where You At 8/10: Banger!! This is going straight to the clubs...Jesse took us to the dance floor; Exotic dancers, Youtube/Keek/Instagram twerkers this is for you. The production on this track is top notch, what makes the track unique is - a club banger without Azonto or Etighi feel with lyrical content is a WIN WIN. "Shawty Go Low, Go Low Go Low, Where You At"
Mamacita 8.5/10: Africans just want to dance and that's exactly what Jesse did here, gave us something to move to. Lets not forget that Jesse's production is on another level. I wish there was a way we can just play that beat alone for us to listen and let it sink in so you can feel the genius in that production. This song is super steady, right tempo, his delivery was on point, precise too, so much it keeps you hooked. A mixture of rap, dance, melody and dope consistency.
Sex & Scotch 8/10: Expecting a baby? You a Porn Star? or you just love to boogie down? This should be playing in the background while you get busy. Sex & Scotch sets the mood for everything you need to do, a sexy video will make this song bigger; sweet music-my favorite on the album. Like i said earlier, the reggae rasta style is really working out for Jesse.
God on the Mic 7/10: Just like every other rapper, they brag on how nobody can spit better than them. This is the Jagz of "Jagz of all trades" before the redemption. Lyrics just a bit above average, he can do better.
International 7.5/10: Just another tune to make you move with lyrical content, a sing-along tune.
Steady Going 8.5/10: The production here won my heart even before i could actually pay attenton to the lyrics. He addresses his haters:"I know my sound is rounded... you'll soon get around it." We all have haters don't we? relating to this shouldn't be hard to anyone at all. Jagz message here: no matter how much hate you get; ignore it and reach your goal. As usual on point delivery.
Jargo ft 9ice 8/10: Story telling on another level with 9ice on the hook? you can't go wrong with such tune. A rap song with Yoruba hook can't fail in my humble opinion. Beat is different, got that chinese feel to it plus indigenous Nigerian instruments playing in the background. 9ice needs to show up and make his own come back.
Pedal on the Floor 8/10: He took us to school on so many issues going on in his life. This is music, this is poetry. He showed great enthusiasm on this one, you can feel his passion, his lines sounded so believable, every single word. He even kept going after the beat was done. Open your mind for this one, not for the average minded.
Sativa (Skit):
Sativa ft Lindsay 8/10: Another story telling music. Most rappers these days lack content in their music. You will hear me say this often. Every rapper raps about the "money they have" the "Lambo they drive" "the chicks they sleep with" even though in the reality of things all those things are false. We have come to realise it's just the "new school rap way". But it gives me joy to see someone like Jesse have the ability to make some real sense with a meaningful message on a song like this.
After Party ft Brymo 8/10: Jesse teams up with former label mate Brymo. Brymo can't go wrong in my book, Jargo didn't sleep on his own track, lyrical content beautiful. "Locked up niggas found the key" that's a line in reference to their Chocolate City departure.
Redemption 8.5/10: First single after the Chocolate City Split off the album, at this moment we found out Jesse Jagz music was already on another level. Beautiful message behind the magnificent instrumental.
